If the density of the battery liquid is over 1.26, it's normal.
■February 9, 2003
Install the 12V Desulfator on the Mercedes Benz C230 which has been 6 years since new. All the cells show under 1.26. The third cell shows 1.230, therefore, this battery should be replaced.

■March 2Mercedes Benz C230/W202 - Battery test
All the cells show over 1.260. The density went up.

■March 15
All the cells show good condition. Liquid density went up. (The battery revived.)

■Conclusion
Although this battery was facing to die, it revived by 12V Desulfator.

December 2, 2003 measured the density and voltage

Mercedes Benz battery was measured on Dec.,2003 The battery voltage is 12.73V.
This battery has been working for 7 years since new. The odometer shows 41,891km = 26,181miles)

The density of the all cells show over 1.27. The voltage shows 12.73V.

As a result, this battery has a good density and voltage which shows a good condition.

If "Battery Desulfator" was not installed on this battery, this battery might have been gone because of the low density and voltage.
In Japan, February is the most cold season, so the lead battery tends to flat in the winter.
Check the graph at the bottom of this page. If the density shows over 1.26, the battery condition is good.

■This battery was facing to flat.

All cells showed the low density on Feb. 9, 2003 and number 3 cell showed 1.23. This battery had been working for 6 years at that time. Actually, I felt that what a long life this battery had. However this battery should have been changed and it was about to down.

Three reasons are considered that why this battery had been used for 6 years.
The odometer showed that this car had not been running the long distance, however we could not come to the conclusion. For example, if the owner seldom drives the car, the battery tends to run out of electricity. Furthermore, the sulfation tends to attatch on the element plates in this case.
  1. This battery is installed in the trank room.
    • Some of the Mercedes Benz, Jaguar and BMW have the battery in the trunk room. It is said that if the heavy battery is installed in the trunk room, the weight balance of the car is more better. This design also has side effects. The battery in the trunk room is not influenced by the cold wind in winter and the hot air in high summer. The lead acid battery is sensitive to the temperature, so this is a ideal way.
  2. This battery has enough capacity for the 4 cylinders engine.
    • This battery has 100Ah capacity. Mercedes Benz E class has also same size. This Mercedes Benz C230, the battery load is less than E class which has 6 or 8 cylinders.
  3. This Mercedes Benz was imported by the regular dealer, so electric parts, which are alternator and computer, are modified in order to fit the Japanese traffic circumstance and crimate.
    • In Japan, some imported cars are imported by the independent car dealers who import the cars from the foreign countries directly. These imported cars are not modified like avobe, so the batteries are replaced in the short terms. In Japan, traffic jam is terrible in the large cities, moreover the temperature and humidity is very high in summer. It is said that these reason makes the battery short life.
    • ※Even though Mercedes Benz has high quality battery, its performance is same as the Japanese high quality battery.

Mercedes Benz C230/W202■The lead battery can revive

This battery does not have to be changed definitely now. The boltage and density shows as a new battery. The engine can be started easily anytime. This battery is made of high quality parts. The high quality battery has over 10 years performance. Therefore, the lead battery can obtain the long life by preventing the sulfation.
The battery life depends on the physical durability of the element plates by using the desulfator.



■Result of the automobile inspection (Finished on December 2003)

In Japan, the car has to take the automobile inspection every two years. However, if the owner buys a new car which has to take the inspection three years later. The inspection cost is high for Japanese ! We envy the American inspection system. The following PDF files are written in Japanese. The mechanic refilled the battery liquid. Of course, No change the battery ! He seemed "What's going on ?"


■"Battery desulfator" was installed on February 2003

Battery desulfator was installed on February 2003 and keep going well until now. Although this car is not drived every day, the engine can be started anytime anywhere. This battery has not have any trouble since new.

Make the hypothesis here.
If "desulfator" was a harmful device for the battery, this battery must have been broken, otherwise the density and voltage must have been gone down because the element plates were attached. It's been over 8.5 years since new battery.


■Conclusion

Japanese desulfator can resolve the sulfation into Pb (lead) and SO4 (sulfuric acid) and prevent the sulfating on the element plates. So the owners only check the amount of the battery liquid sometimes. That's it !
In case of the MF (Maintenance free battery), the owners don't have to check the battery liquid. Yes, it's going to be a real MF battery, isn't it?
If this battery were gone, the following reasons were considered.
  1. The element plates and separators are broken physically.
  2. The battery got a strong shock physically.
Resolving and preventing the sulfation is the best way to prolong the battery life.

■The hypothesis・・・Secondary effect 1

The engine of Mercedes Benz has a linear torque character in order to avoid the scramble start. The owner can feel the linear torque in proportion to the accelerator. This causes that if we compare Mercedes Benz and Japanese car, the former has a slow response engine when it starts.
However, this Mercedes Benz has a quick response engine by "Desulfator" now.
The load of alternator is not low for the engine at the low revolution. Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, AUDI and American car have big alternators, so the engine response tends to go up by "Desulfator".


■The relation of the alternator and the battery

It's been 1 century since the car and the lead battery were invented. However, I've never heard and read the relation about the alternator and the lead battery. In genaral, the old battery has a low charge efficiency, therefore it is said that it contaminates the mileage somewhat. The alternator is always controlled by ECU (Engine Control Unit).
  1. AlternatorElectric accessories On
    • The rotor coils in the alternator lead the rotary load in order to genarate the electricity. Then, the rotary load goes up for the engine, so the car computer controls the r.p.m. (Revolutions per minute) to stabilize the engine.
  2. The old battery
    • The old battery has low charge efficiency and storage ability, so the alternator load tends to high and the charging time is long. In short, the alternator is turning by the belt, and generating the electricity to the battery. However, the sulfation on the element plates interferes with charging, it's also electric load. This load changes into the heat energy. That's why, the old battery tends to hot and evaporates the battery liquid.
   a. Alternator......It genarates the electricity and electrify to the battery.
   b. The old battery......It's not easy to charge the electricity because of the sulfation.

As a result, the engine, which has an old battery, always faces the power loss. Although all engines and batteries have this phenomenon, it is considered that that's the way it goes before.

■The sulfation causes the "Loss"

In Summer, the engine power and mileage go down by the air conditioner. Especially the compressor's load isn't low for the compact cars. The alternator is always turning by the belt while the engine is running. So the rotary load of the alternator isn't low for the engine anytime.

The battery can be charged easily and the charging time is going to be short by "Desulfator". Totally the rotary load of the alternator goes down. As a result, it's going to be low load from the low to high revolution for the engine.

The relation of the alternator and the battery shows above. They have a relation which means action and reaction each other. The sulfation has been causing the "Loss" for the engine. Another word, The "Loss" can be down by resolving the sulfation. I've never read and heard this logic before. How do you think Mr. sir ?

Now the internal combustion engine has 20 to 30 % energy efficiency. Gasoline engine has 20 % mark and diesel has 30 % mark. It is said that these are maximum level under the engine technology. The most of fuel energy changes into the heat, inside resistance, transmission and air resistance.
Even though the engine has an alternator, it causes the rotary loss while running. Although I'm not an engine engineer, the alternator will be a necessary component for the vehicles forever.
